The Workforce Planning system operates by creating assignments. These assignments are independent and can be scheduled.
Assignments can optionally be connected to a job and/or phase. If connected to a phase, the system will display the estimated hours for the phase in the assignment dialog box.
General Assignments can be used for non-job related things, such as:
- Vacations
- Scheduled Time Off
- Training
- Meetings
When Assignments are attached to a job, the following information is copied onto the assignment:
- Job Num and Name - Description
- Phase Number and Name - Second line description
- Address
Exactly what fields are copied are defined in your setup.
Start/Finish Dates
You can set the Start/Finish Dates, and the Start/Finish Times for the assignment.
Optionally, you can connect the assignment to:
- Job Start/Finish Dates
- Job Start/Finish Times
In this case, if you make change to the job, the assignment will follow along.
You can also set a custom workweek for the assignment. Check the "Set Custom Workweek" setting then click on the days that are represent the workweek.
Start/Finish Times
The system determine the start/finish times for an assignment in the following priority:
- Manually set on the assignment
- If set to the job, then it uses the job settings
- If the job has no settings, then it uses your system defaults
Workweek
The system determines the workweek for the assignment as follows:
Manually on the assignment if you selected Set Custom Workweek
Custom Workweek set on the job
Otherwise it uses your system default
Job Constraints
In the job, you can set constraints for the job start/finish dates:
- Must Start On
- Must Finish On
If these settings are enabled on an assignment, you will get an error if you attempt to drag the assignment on the canvas. You will need to edit the job settings for start/finish dates in order to re-schedule the assignment.
