Lean Construction Scheduling

Resources

The Job Resources Screen is designed to give you an approximate forecast of the labor requirements over the duration of the job.

This screen is organized by "Work Group".  The Work Group is defined in the Master Phase Code setup.  See that article for more information on managing the Work Groups.

Each Work Group represents a department or group of workers.  For instance you could have Work Groups defined as follows:
  1. Office
  2. CAD/Design
  3. Shop
  4. Field
  5. Trucking
In addition to the work group there is a user entry column "Labor Code".  This is a further way of organizing your labor requirements when you roll up all the jobs in the Master Resource Loading screen.  This labor code can be used to sub-categorize your work group labor.  For instance you may wish to use the union code in this field.  This allows you to roll up the work group labor by union.

Scheduling Entries
There are a number of fields where you can adjust/set the schedule for each work group.  These entries all "float" with the job start and finish dates. So changes in the job start/finish dates will cascade to the work group start/finish dates.  This provides an easy way to adjust the overall job schedule without managing each work group schedule.

Calendar Days After Job Start
This user entry field (in blue) allows you to set the start date for each work group based on the start date for the job.  Any changes in the job start date will automatically adjust the start date for the work group.

Estimated Start
This system calculated column is Estimated Start = Job Start Date + Calendar Days After Job Start.
For example if job start date = 01/01/2021 and Calendar Days After Job Start = 60, then Work Group Estimated Start = 3/2/2021.

Duration
This system calculated column is Duration = Estimated Finish - Estimated Start

Calendar Days Before Job Finish
This user entry field allows you to set the finish date for each work group based on the job finish date.  Any changes in the job start date will automatically adjust the finish date for this work group.

Estimated Finish
This user entry field allows you to enter a finish date for the work group.  An entry here will re-calculate the Calendar Days Before Job Finish field.  Any change to the job finish date will automatically adjust the finish date for the work group.

Estimated Manpower Requirements
The next section show the Man Days Remaining for the work group based on what is left in the estimated hours.   From this the system calculates the People Required field.  This is the number of people required between the start date and the finish date to get the work done on schedule.  This is designed to be a guide to staffing the job.  This will provide a better results if you set the start date for the work group based on the date you expect major work to start (substantial start) , as opposed to the day you put 1 or 2 people on the site.  Similar, set the finish date as the substantial finish date.

Projected Manpower Requirements
This section provides similar calculations to the section above, but used the Projected Man Days Remaining to do the calculations.  At the beginning of the job these two calculations will be identical.  As the job progresses, this calculation will change based on the actual productivity on the job.
